Looking for a change of style but without a total commitment? There are so many styling options for longer shags because the multiple layers allow plenty of movement to play with.  But what about those who want to go shorter but just aren’t quite sure if they want a big change in length?  Sam Villa, Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Sam Villa and Global Artistic Ambassador for Redken, has a trick for styling a faux bixie so people can actually see what they would look like with shorter hair. 

Teasy lights are a technique that uses backcombing to create a softer transition between base shades and highlights. It can be used to create ombre, sombre or babylight looks or anytime you’re looking for a soft grow-out. “Sometimes when you’re doing teasy lights, it’s hard to get your backcombing to take or hold, so I use dry sections clip,” explains Twylla Jane, Sam Villa Ambassador and owner of Lumos Nox Salon @twyllajane. 

Each stylist has their technique to get the look when it comes to achieving a specific shade. For example, Blake Reed Evans, Sam Villa Ambassador and owner of Shear Art Salon (Tampa, FL) @blakereedevans says,  “I see a lot of influencers posting about using less foils for maximum impact, but there is still a time and place for lots of foils.  Guests who want full coverage blonde with minimum contrast simply need more foils.” In short, the answer to bright blonde with minimum contrast may be babylights.
