The talents within hair artist Nicole Bellows, are simply amazing. Lucky for us, Nicole agreed to let us pick her brain about inspiration, creativity, and her latest collection. Check out our exclusive interview below to learn more about Nicole, and what fuels her passion for hair artistry.
What was the inspiration behind the looks? How did the creative process unfold?
The looks (colored wigs) started with the colors. It reminded me of “The Cheshire Cat,” “The Mad Hatter” and also “The Lorax!” I started to rope braid the colors together and the hair told me the rest!
Where do you constantly find yourself looking to for style inspiration?
Bangstyle, hairbrained, Pinterest, architecture, nature. You name it, I find inspiration in everything I see.
What is your recipe for a successful shoot?
A good team with plenty of communication and storyboards. Without clear communication the entire thing will fall apart.
If you could have anyone in your chair with no restrictions, who it would be and what would what you do?
This is a tricky one.. I would have to say Melissa McCarthy. She has continued to have big parts and with her weight loss and, I feel she could use a lighter, brighter look. She would look amazing with a rose gold melt or caramel balayage.
Is there a current trend you are loving right now?
Hairpainting and pixelation!
What is your favorite aspect of being a stylist?
The people. Everyday of the week is new and never mundane when you enjoy who you work with, and who you work on.
Is there another area of beauty you’d like to explore more this year? Or elements you’d like to play with in upcoming collections?
I plan on taking an aquage class as well as brushing up on a few techniques I've learned from Sharon Blain, John Simpson, Dimitrious Tsioumas, Nick Arrojo and his team of colorists and cutters as well as Gerard Scarpaci and so many more.
What trend do you wish would come back in style? Is there one you wish would go away forever?
The one that forever needs to stay away is the mullet, because nobody wants to look like Joe Dirt.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure would be Disneyland! I can be a kid anytime I go. And who doesn't love the mouse? Myself and a few of the butterfly loft employees happen to be pass holders. If I can I would go at least once a week.
