Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
I have been hairdressing for 5 years now. I started doing wedding hair during the summer 3 years ago and since then I've come out of my shell and started doing more creative styling.
What drew you to hair styling?
In high school I was always styling my hair a different way everyday. I even did my grad hair, so it just made sense to do it as a career.
What is your favourite technique to use?
I really love hair sewing! I try to use it on all my up styles.
What has been your biggest defining moment in your career?
The biggest moment was just 3 months ago when I did this shoot. It was my first time shooting, and I felt a shift, I knew that this is what I need to pursue and keep doing.
Can you give us a bit of insight into what the typical creative process behind creating a collection?
I start by daydreaming, once I have a clear vision that feels right I start creating a mood board.
Is there a specific area you often find yourself looking to for inspiration?
I really love looking at collections of fashion designers, as well as Frank Apostolopoulos' page because I can't get enough of his work.
Do you have any rituals to ensure a successful shoot?
Eat! I can't focus if I'm hungry.
Where do you find your inspirations?
If something gives me a feeling, I will use it as inspiration.
What is the one product/tool you can't live without?
I can't live without dry shampoo. I love to curl set with it and I can re-shape styles so easily with it too.
If you had one superpower, what would it be?
I love scuba diving, so it would be to breathe underwater.
Who were your mentors along the way?
Stewart Anderson who was my teacher at JCI is someone I really looked up to for my first year of hairdressing. In terms of styling, Simone Van Haltren, who was my boss at a styling bar in Australia, really believed in me and grew my confidence in blow-drying. Something so simple yet takes years to perfect!
What has it been like so far to compete for Wella Trend Vision?
It has been amazing! It's so cool to meet the other contestants from around the country and talk hair.
What do the Trend Vision awards mean to you?
For me it means expressing myself from the creative platform Wella has created, and ultimately celebrating what's possible within our industry.
