We are thrilled to partner with the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) to promote all of the talented artists who are finalists for the 2016 NAHAs (North American Hairstyling Awards), the most prestigious hair and beauty award in the country. Bangstyle had the honor of interviewing amazing hair artist and, one of this year’s finalists in the “Editorial Stylist Of The Year” category, Lucie Doughty.
An inevitable majestic feeling takes over when viewing Lucie Doughty’s Editorial Stylist of the Year Collection. Her pieces are an amalgamation of strength and romanticism that catches the eye and our emotions. Take a peek at her collection and hear what she has to say about her inspirations and how she got to where she is now.
What was the inspiration behind your collection?
I had worked with the beauty editor before on a shoot, so when he contacted me to do a collection, I jumped at the chance. His vision was for me to create sculptural hair using varying textures. Both models were so interesting and really great to work with.
Who were your mentors along the way?
My greatest mentors are Robert Cromeans, Robert Lobetta and Sharon Blaine. Each one has a unique way of pushing and inspiring me. I am really lucky to have them in my life and impact my work the way they do.
What steps did you take to ensure a successful shoot?
Working with great people, with a common goal, is always a great way to have a good shoot. I am fortunate to run into a great deal of talent in the work that I do.
What was the method for selecting your team? Had you worked with them before?
I didn't select the team; they selected me!! How amazing is that??!!!
What techniques did you use to create your style?
I used many techniques for these looks. For the redhead, I worked with a crimped texture and padding (from Straightpinla) to create these large graphic shapes.
For the blonde I worked with, I used her natural hair and added pieces.
Are you artistic outside the medium of hair?
Yes I am, I love anything arts and craftsy.
What other nominated collections inspired you?
I love all the entries in my category, and I especially love the colors and style from Steve Elisa.
What’s the one tool or product you can live without?
I can't live without my Straightpin essential kit.
What advice can give to the next generation of stylists?
Don't talk about it, do it!
What’s your average Saturday night like?
My average Saturday night is not as crazy as you might think, but I do love a good cocktail.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Watching House Of Cards!
Who is the one person you don’t want to forget to thank on stage?
The one person I can't forget to thank is my wife Lisa; she is my everything, along with our dog Izzie.
