Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background? What drew you to hair styling? What is your favorite technique to use?
For as long as I can remember, I was always drawn to the world of beauty. I have been a makeup artist for the past 14 years; in that time I have always been surrounded by hairstylists and always admired what they did. I just recently started apprenticing at The Headroom Spa and Salon, and I feel I am the happiest I have been in my whole life!
What has been your biggest defining moment in your career?
The biggest defining moment in my career thus far would have to be placing in the student category at this years Wella Trend Vision, and am so excited and very honoured!
Can you give us a bit of insight into what the typical creative process behind creating a collection?
I am always reading Fashion magazines and follow all the major fashion houses. For me fashion is so inspirational and is something that influences me, but I think inspiration is everywhere, in the streets our clients, in nature, in seeing what the trends are beginning and making those connections.
Is there a specific area you often find yourself looking to for inspiration?
I find my Inspirations everywhere; history, nature, clients and collages, pop culture, fashion, social media, outer space, the possibilities are endless!
Do you have any rituals to ensure a successful shoot?
This is my first shoot as a hair stylist, but I done many as a makeup artist. I have to be organized, my tools, my ideas, my space, I feel it keeps me calm and focused. I like to have a good music playlist; good music keeps the energy high and everyone happy. Plus lots of water and a goodnight sleep!
What is the one product/tool that you can’t live without?
One product or tool I could not live with out would have to be Wella’s EIMI Perfect Me! Such a great product for everyone
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Laser Eyes
Who were your mentors along the way?
My mentors along the way would have to be my wonderful teacher Eryn Wall who is such a fantastic hairstylist, who has a wealth of knowledge and way too much patience with me, she's a sweetheart and her drive and passion influences me everyday to be a better and stronger stylist. Trish Molly has been so supportive towards me over the years something I have always appreciated! I have a lot of friends who are stylists as well and they are always there to help me! I feel very lucky to have such talented people surrounding me!
How does it feel to be a winner of the 2016 NATVA?
It is such an honour to have won silver at the 2016 NATVA's, every one of the competitors were so strong and their work was amazing! I feel blessed and am still in shock, what an amazing experience!
What is the first thing you thought when you won?
I can't remember exactly, but I know I was so proud of my model Haily she really rocked it on the catwalk! I was very happy, I am sure of that!
Who was the first person you called after the show?
The first person I called was my momm she was watching on the live feed and was awaiting my call!
What’s next?!
I am going to continue on with my training and focus on becoming the best I can be and hopefully I will have the privilege of competing again In the NATVA, as I really enjoyed it and know that this experience has already had so many positive impacts on my life and career!
