The British Hairdressing Awards is always an exciting time for us. We love seeing all the INCREDIBLE collections from some of the best artists the UK has to offer. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the BHA's, presented by HJi and sponsored by Schwarzkopf, and we are thrilled to be able to get to know some of this years amazing finalists. Akin Konizi, director of HOB Salon creates absolutely stunning imagery. It’s his incredible talent that has led him to be crowned British Hair Dresser of the Year four times (including last year) as well as a nomination in the category this year!! We were honored to have the opportunity to ask Akin a few questions about how he stays inspired...
What is different about your BHA nominated collection from past collections?
I’ve gone for a more natural feeling throughout the whole shoot with a softer, more consumer friendly collection. I wanted to create that ‘timeless’ feel.
When was the moment when it hit you that hairstyling was the career path for you?
I was actually initially drawn to the fashion industry, and was accepted at the London College of Fashion but wasn’t fully convinced. In the meantime, my cousin had opened a salon in London and as soon as I went in, I knew that this was the industry for me.
What is the one product you grab for most often?
Sebastian Craft Clay. It’s the best thing for achieving that ‘dirty hair’ texture.
Describe your craft in 3 words..
Inspiring, evolving, evoking.
Do you have a favorite guilty pleasure?
It would have to be chocolate biscuits!
What inspired you about other nominees’ collections?
The diversity of each of the nominees and how they have such different values and techniques.
Any advice for clients adopting your editorial looks at home?
Be brave, be individual, but most of all be sexy!
