No matter what your hair type and texture, we’ve all encountered our fair share of bad hair days. And while loose ponytails and messy buns are easy go-to looks, it’s always good to have a fool-proof braided style in rotation. Read on to learn how to achieve the best braids for your hair length.

Quick Tip: No matter what your hair length, if you’ve got curly, wavy or super frizz-prone hair, creating a braid is easier said than done. So what’s the secret to rocking the lazy day style? The Cezanne Classic Keratin Smoothing Treatment will smooth your strands without leaving them flat and lifeless, transforming your hair into the ideal canvas for any type of braid you want to create.

Short

If your hair veers toward the shorter side, it’s best to master your French braiding technique in order to keep those shorter layers from falling out. Your best bet? Create a side part, then French braid a section around the front of your face. (This will get your hair out of the way without having to pin it back.) Next, pull the rest of your hair into a messy bun at the nape of your neck and secure it with a hair elastic. Gently pull apart the French braid, then pull out a few pieces around your face to create a messy look.

Medium-Length

To keep hair off your neck and out of the way, opt for a chunky half-up, half-down Dutch braid. Start off by separating your hair into two sections, then create a Dutch braid (like a French braid, only pulling strands under one another rather than over) and secure it with a clear hair elastic. Finish by gently pulling the braid apart to make it look thicker.

Long

Channel your inner Rapunzel with an elegant rope braid. To achieve the look, start out by French braiding the front ends of your hair, grabbing small sections at first, then grabbing larger sections as you hit the area just below your ears. Next, grab the two remaining sections of hair and twist them away from each other. Wrap the two sections around each other and then divide them in two sections and twist them again. Continue twisting and wrapping until you’ve reached the ends of your hair, then secure the braid with a hair tie.
