Fashion week is our favorite time of the year for a few reasons. Not only do we get to swoon over the latest chic styles, but we’re also inspired by the latest beauty trends hitting the scene. While we patiently wait for the trickle down effect of fashion, hair is a bit more immediate. We’re able to quickly pick up on hair and makeup trends with the change of technique or by picking up a new product. At the helm of the trends is Redken and Redken’s Global Creative Director Guido Palau who heads up some of the most influential shows of the season. Keep reading to learn more about his work with designers, the inspiration behind the looks and steps to achieve the latest trends!
Extreme simplicity was a theme throughout each show. While lines were simplified, they were also exaggerated to create show-stopping styles. To get the look, Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau utilized Redken Triple Dry 15 for effortless texture, Frizz Dismiss to smooth and tame blowouts, Satinwear 04 for super sleek styles, and Fashion Work 12 to set any style.
Dramatized Glamour
“The show-stopping looks this season included extreme lengths and black and blonde colors at Prada, braids at Tory Burch, and extreme looks at Miu Miu. The show-stopping looks have a simplistic take on hair with an extremeness that’s sort of ‘done’ but not in the traditional coiffure or dressed look that we’re used to seeing. It’s funny how exaggerated, long hair looks are extreme in their own right now. A long braid can feel fetishy, with a nod to a dark romance. Hair being dyed to a simplistic black or frosted blonde, with no apologies or a blunt cut, all emphasize the styles. “

Center parts and classic lines triumph from head to toe, and especially toe – with footwear that turned heads. Trenches, textured layers and knit dresses replaced past seasons of floral prints as her progressive collection took the stage.

Modern Blowouts
“This season, the ‘traditional’ blowout was transitioned into a more modern blowout. It’s not the classic blowouts we’re used to seeing where the hair is fully smoothed and bent at the ends. For FW19, we used blowouts to tame individual sections of hair as needed with Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame and adding additional bends in with an iron. There is a realness and a luxury to it, with the effortless ease of air-dried, clean, beautiful hair. “

With a center part and natural texture, the entire feel of the show is fluid and free. The slight bend in the hair is the perfect style to compliment any of this season’s styles!

All Done Up
Upstyles and braided looks have made quite the comeback this year. While the #TBT pony is alive and well, so are more intricate looks to show off the neckline!
“My favorite updo this season was at Valentino. It was a simple kind of 70’s knot at the back of the head, but what made it special was the veil of hair around the hairline. It’s easy to recreate and has that dark, romantic vibe again, with slight nods to an Italian romantic woman who has a lot of style and is super chic. With the Tory braid, it’s simplicity done in an extreme way. This simplistic, modern drama that can be recreated at home. At Ralph Lauren, the show is about the woman, with some models having their hair up and some down, showcasing how a simple ponytail, worn with the right attitude and clothes, can look so stylish and easy with the help of a few products.“

A simple ponytail shows that it too can make a statement. Step up your style by wrapping hair around your elastic to give it a finished feel. Slightly more gender neutral, side parts take on a boyish charm.

- Apply a small amount of Redken Satinwear 04 to add polish to your blowout and heat protect your hair.
- Side part your hair from left to right, then blow dry your hair using a boar-bristle brush.
- Keeping your hairline clean, pull your hair back into a central, low ponytail at the nape of your neck and softly secure with a hair tie.

- If needed, use a few spritzes of Redken’s NEW Frizz Dismiss Anti-Static Oil Mist around the hairline to soften any baby hairs and use your fingers to smooth.
Au Naturel
While more polished looks were appreciated, texture is still keeping a natural feel. The key is to find a balance between polished finish with an undone vibe.
“This season, the effortless looks were sometimes tweaked with that modern blowout to enhance each girl’s personal style. I also played around with changing the part for a nuanced look. At Christopher Kane, we embraced natural and inclusive textures. Marc Jacobs this season was also an effortless look, with small pieces left around the face. To me, natural hair is one of the best looks to emphasize your unique personality and style.”
Featured Style: Christopher Kane
The classics of Christopher Kane appealed to the masses, as his signature sensual lines were a mix of latex and lace. The peplum waistline, layered effect, and liquid-like fabrics intrigued fetishes far and wide with a renewed sense of creativity. Slight humor was aware throughout as fluidity reigned supreme.
