As gender lines blur and unisex style and styling products begin to open a new dimension on fashion we see men spending more time grooming – therefore more time educating themselves on products and technique. This men’s grooming revolution was first spotted on the runways and has now trickled down to street style. As Men’s NYFW unveils a new season of style, be sure you know how to get the looks!
Texture – Embracing both natural curls and waves were in again this year, the only thing that changed was the diversity in which they were styled. Some were defined and delicate while others were brushed out for effect. If you’re aiming to keep your curls controlled invest in a Curl Control cream; it will tame locks while keeping your curls looking their best. If you do want to go for a grander look, prep hair with Alternator let dry and then brush out your curls. If you want volume and shape it is imperative to wait for your hair to dry before brushing it out.
Shaggy Straight – From John Varvatos to Tim Coppens, a shaggy cut with a natural fall was the style to suit this season. For a shaggy appearance it is best to prep hair with the Alternator and blow dry using your fingertips to add movement. Once dry, apply a nickel-sized amount of Molding Clay to your hands and emulsify. Then apply this with your fingertips to give hair definition and to keep hair at a natural fall.
Brushed Back – This nonchalant cool look was seen all over the runways at Joseph Abboud. To get this slicked-back style prep hair with Boost Cream then blow dry using a brush to add volume, brushing away from the face as you dry so your hair keeps this shape. Once your hair is dry, put a nickel-sized amount of Heavy Hold Pomade in palms and emulsify before applying. Work Heavy Hold Pomade throughout the hair and use a comb or brush to accentuate your brushed back shape.
Based on your personal style and texture type these styles may vary, but this is where the beauty of men’s grooming lies. Experiment with your hair and try out new products to get a look you’re proud of!
