One of the predominant inspirations at this season’s Fashion Month was the idea of attainability. Whether soft and feminine, bold and structured, or timelessly chic, the hair and beauty looks we saw across the FW 2020 runways were elevated yet accessible. Translation? These styles are totally wearable in real life and, best of all, easy to recreate at home.
Here, we’ve compiled some of our favorite hairstyles from Fashion Month to help you get inspired and provided simple tips on recreating these looks at home.
Sleek, Structured Chignons at Michael Kors
For months, we’ve been seeing sleek styles make a major comeback, from perfectly polished blowouts to chic low chignons, and the look at Michael Kors was no exception. Strands were slicked back and twisted into structured, artfully shaped buns with ends left loose for a bit of contrast. The overall effect is both polished and modern.
To get the look at home:
- Prep hair by blow-drying with a diffuser to reduce frizz and boost shine.
- Run a styling gel, like Keune’s Style Brilliantine Gel No. 29, through strands to create a wearable wet look.
- Using a boar bristle brush, like Sam Villa’s Signature Series Styling Brush, brush strands back away from the face, making sure to smooth any bumps so hair lies perfectly flat.
- Secure hair into a ponytail at the middle of the back of the head using a clear elastic.
- Take the ponytail and twist until it curls around itself. Pin into place, making sure to leave ends loose.
- Secure the look with a medium to high-hold hairspray, like Redken’s Forceful 23 Super Strength Hairspray.
- Finish by adding a heavy dose of shine; we like Keune’s Style Brilliant Gloss Spray No. 110.
Flowing, Feminine Curls at Dolce & Gabbana
The different hair and beauty looks at Dolce & Gabbana were all about playing with the ideas of traditional masculinity and femininity. But one style really stood out: soft, fluid curls with just the right touch of glamour and romance. It’s the perfect way to show off your natural texture while embracing your feminine side.
To get the look at home:
- Prep damp hair using Keune’s Style Curl Cream No. 25 for added bounce, definition, and frizz control.
- Blow-dry hair with a diffuser, shaping curls with fingers as you dry.
- To help reduce frizz and enhance curls, spray with Redken’s Curvaceous Wind Up Curly & Wavy Hair Reactivating Spray. Bonus: you can use this reactivating spray throughout the day to refresh curls and add definition.
- To up the romance factor, take a small section of hair near the face and twist, pinning back above and slightly behind the ear, or add feminine hair accessories, like jeweled pins, clips, or a headband.
Simple Twists at Tory Burch
At Tory Burch, models’ natural strands were enhanced with soft texture and simple twists, created by Redken Global Creative Director Guido Paulo. The effect was a slightly elevated take on everyday hair with a nod to vintage styles.
To get the look at home:
- Let strands air dry or blow dry using fingers—not a brush—to showcase your hair’s natural texture.
- Absorb any excess oil with Redken’s Deep Clean Dry Shampoo.
- Create a center part, then take two sections of hair from either side of the face and twist back toward the center of the head, meeting in the middle.
- Secure with an elastic, then flip the strands over to create the twist.
- Use more Deep Clean Dry Shampoo under each section to boost volume and texture while also securing the twists in place.
- Finish by using a flat iron to create subtle bends at the ends.
