Tell us more about you as an artist. How did you get into makeup?
Myself as an artist is very relaxed. Inspiration comes naturally; I can find inspiration in many things. I have always been into makeup. I remember playing with my mom’s makeup brushes and putting her lipstick all over my hands, I would say "Mom, I'm painting". When helped me become seriously interested in makeup was when I took my first makeup class at 16 years old with the now Global Makeup Director for Aveda, Janell Geason.
How has your style changed over the years?
I tend to stray away from the trends. Instead, I just listen to myself and pay attention to what I am drawn to.
What was the inspiration behind this collection?
I wanted something retro with a fresh twist. I feel glitter is trending big right now. So my collection is all about meshing retro ideas with a fresh perspective. The ombre lip is very on trend at the moment and I believe we will continue to see this as a trend. I wanted to put my spin on the ombre, typically we see similar shades being placed together. I wanted to go total opposite from red to white.
What was your biggest challenge in creating this collection?
The biggest challenge I would say was finding the time. I had just taken on a new role within my company as Chief Influencer for Serenity Couture Salons and Spa in Iowa and Minnesota, overseeing six salon and spa locations with over 200 employees.
What does your collection say about trends or movements within the industry?
I feel like we are moving into a more colorful era instead of smokey or dark colors. Glitter is everywhere and I think it will start to be used in unconventional ways this year.
If you were to describe this collection in one word, what would it be?
BOSS!
Did you have any hero products? (Or any product faves!?)
Aveda Oleation Oil.
What were you hoping to convey to your audience with this collection?
To have FUN! I wanted to keep things light-hearted!
Where will we find you in Long Beach?!
By the ocean.
If you won the lotto (or slot machine) tomorrow, what would you do?
I would save it, and pretend it wasn't there.
