In this feature, get to know more about this year's Styling & Finishing Finalist – Frank Cini.
In creating hair art, there is a great deal of engineering that goes into each piece. It is no wonder that architecture goes hand in hand. With this as his common theme, Frank Cini created sleek silhouettes and powerful forms to display his art. Keep reading to get to know more about Frank and the beautiful work he created!
If you were to describe your collection in one word, what would it be?
Sleek.
What was the inspiration behind this collection?
Sleek & odd shapes and architecture.
Did you have a hero product?
L’Oreal Professional Shower Shine.
Was there a certain technique that really brought your style to life?
Backcombing for support.
Any tips for stylists about upcoming trends and techniques to achieve the look?
Become obsessed with hair & practice practice practice!
What was your biggest challenge?
It’s always to try and get a cover look with each model to get three strong shots I typically shoot five!
How did you translate your vision into hair?
By being flexible as an artist it is not always the way you envision, although styles can evolve into something beautiful.
What is your favorite aspect of styling and finishing?
Express Styling, it’s a class I developed.
The premise is working with hair behind the chair and eliminating hair prep.
To become proficient with long hair and tackle any look whether it's painstakingly neat or “artfully disheveled” (in minutes).
How did you select your team? Have you worked with them before?
Photographer is Natasha Gerschon incredibly talented & great person was referred to me by our London salon. Makeup artistry is Katie Foster a Taz franchisee.
Tell us a little more about you, as an artist.
I am a L’Oreal Professionel Ambassador and have a strong passion for education. I love To teach & take classes. I really enjoy all aspects of styling, cutting, and Avant-Garde
How do you Vegas?
Vegas is cool.
Salty or sweet?
Sweet brownies and ice cream.
What did you learn about yourself through creating this collection?
It’s good to push yourself! I have been doing this a long time and my wife said, “Why are you still doing this?” Then I won Canadian Hairdresser 2017.
What element did you focus on most in your collection?
Unique shapes.
