Karla Valenzuela, Sam Villa Ambassador and Redken Artist @kolor.me. karlaa, says, “I wanted to recreate Lydia Deetz’s hair without having to cut any length on someone’s hair. It’s a way to give inspiration to anyone who’s looking to dress up but doesn’t want the commitment of cutting a fringe or buying a wig.”

The Steps

1. Section 1: Section out a top section from behind the ears to the crown of the head – this section is for a top high pony.

2. Section 2: Take a round section on the back with the other hair, leaving out 2-3 inches of hair around the hairline. This section is for the braid to hide all the extra hair.

3. Section 3: The nape area, this section was used to connect to the top high pony and hide the interior braid.

4. Apply Redken Root Lifter and dry with a paddle brush and Sam Villa Pro Light Ionic Blow Dryer to control and direct hair into a ponytail.

5. Secure ponytail with sewing elastic and bobby pins to make sure it can hold all the weight.

6. To make the length of the ponytail shorter, tie 2 elastics and attached a bobby pin to each end. Pin down the ponytail about 4” from the base (where it was tied off) by securing one pin into the interior braid on one side and the second bobby pin on the opposite side. Going across from left to right.

7. Fold the ponytail up and secure one more time from left to right with 2 bobby pins and elastics. This adds the height and length needed for the look.

8. For the ends, spray Redken Thermal Spray and use a Sam Villa Sleekr Professional Flat Iron curving hair up and down with the plates to give hair a very undone organic wave.

9. Secure  clip-in fringe to the top of the head and use Sam Villa Artist Series Slide Cutting Shears to texturize the fringe and give it a more spikey look.

10. Then, apply Redken Max Sculpting Gel and use the iron to sculpt fringe into random spikey sections. Finish with Redken Control Hairspray for strong hold.
