Spoiler Alert: You've been doing it all wrong. Healthy. Hair. Starts. At. The. Scalp. We’re not sure who needs to hear this, but listen up it’s important because chances are you’ve been shampooing your hair completely wrong… for years. The scalp is where everything stems from, literally. The hair follicles which make a cosy little house for your strands can do everything from enhance your texture pattern to adding volume and shine. So when your scalp suffers, so does your hair.
Scalp Care 101
To set things straight, start by examining how you currently cleanse your scalp. Do you concentrate on the health of it? Are you aware of any underlying issues like flakes, irritation or dryness? Do you shampoo your scalp at all or do you stick to the strands?
To turn things around, this is the best way to shampoo your hair.
How To Shampoo Your Hair
- Start off with less shampoo than you normally would. Concentrate your shampoo formula only at the roots. If needed, wash this area twice. Because the shampoo will run down the lengths of your hair you don’t need to apply shampoo here.
- As you shampoo, massage the scalp area to slough off dirt and buildup while stimulating the scalp.
- Rinse thoroughly, making sure all product is removed from your scalp and then follow with your conditioner of choice. Focus your application of conditioner to your mids and lengths.
And… that’s it.
