Each year, stylists and starlets alike wait for the Met Gala eagerly. The fashion, the hair, and the Red Carpet moments are some of the grandest we see – a treat for the eyes and inspiration for the imagination. This year, at the 71st Annual Met Gala socialites and stars, brought an extra layer of extravagance to the scene as one of the biggest nights in fashion unfolded. The theme this year was “Camp: Notes on Fashion” inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay that defines camp as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.” And exaggerate they did! Matrix had a behind the scenes look at some of Hollywood’s favorite starlets – Emma Stone, Katie Holmes, Halsey, and Kerry Washington – as celebrity stylists Mara Roszak and DJ Quintero for Biolage, and Takisha Sturdivant-Drew and Florido Basallo for Matrix created the glamorous hairstyles to match!
Take a peek at some of our favorite styles below and see just how they got the look!
Emma Stone by Mara Roszak for Biolage
Going for a little extra drama – in the best way possible – Emma donned a little extra sparkle around her eyes to match her outfit. With a glitter cat eye and a severe side-swept style, she stood out from head to toe. “Emma wore a gorgeous custom Louis Vuitton jumpsuit that felt like an 80’s dream! I wanted to create a side-swept textured style accentuating her natural waves,” says Roszak.

Kerry Washington by Takisha Sturdivant-Drew for Matrix
Stepping out onto the Red Carpet with designer Tory Burch – Kerry made a powerful message and it was written all over her dress! A custom design by Tory Burch herself, it read “Negativity Is Noise” and she had the matching Lorraine Schwartz jewels to match. When it came to beauty, this is what Takisha Sturdivant-Drew had to say! “From the moment I saw Kerry’s Tory Burch couture dress, I felt the look of the dress was ethereal, cloud-like negativity is noise! So I decided that her hair should be in a really short pixie smooth cut wet look with bangs.”
