Couture brings together the world of fantasy and fashion and this year, it is proving that it can be both. With vivid punk at Dior, classic couture at Valentino and individualization at Givenchy, the shows were ultimately artistic. The larger than life themes that encapsulated the season included pops of pink, tulle galore, bows pantsuits and beach-chic attire. Keep reading to see some of our favorite shows and how Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau created the looks at the Dior, Valentino and Givenchy shows!
DIOR
The Christian Dior Couture show was full of high-flying fun. A circus-themed runway paved the way for the choreographed performance. Maria Grazia Chiuri capitalized on empowerment and showcased her new collection in black and white.
“The hair was the supporting act for beautiful hats at the Dior Couture show this season. GET THE LOOK – WIG WRAP:
- Start with dry, center-parted hair.
- Apply Redken Rough Paste 12 throughout your lengths and ends for added grip and hold.
- Using a tail comb, section out a 3” circular section on the top of your head and pin it close to your scalp with hairpins, removing any volume.
- Section your remaining lengths into 2” sections and saturate each section with a heavy spritz of Redken Forceful 23 Super-Strength Hairspray, wrapping and pinning close to your head shape as you go.
- Repeat until all of your hair is pinned up.
- Finish with a heavy spritz of Redken Forceful 23 Super-Strength Hairspray to seal the look together.
- Allow hair to dry, then add a festive hat.
GET THE LOOK – THE PONYTAIL:

- Blow-dry the hair with no volume straight back with no parting.

- Secure the hair into a low ponytail with a hair elastic.

VALENTINO
Much praise surrounded Pierpaolo Piccioli both on and off the runway at the Valentino Haute Couture show in Paris. Piccioli triumphed a return to celebrating classic feminine beauty by showing off her shape in all its couture glory and appreciating the time and craftsmanship that goes into each piece. For a 60s flair, petals were applied to model’s eyes and the hair was clean and chic – elegance brought spectators to their feet in admiration.

GIVENCHY
It has been a whirlwind year for Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller and as the third Couture show she’s designed for Givenchy – she brought a modern vibe to the houses’ appearance. She has created softness within her sculptures while adding sex appeal.

- Once fully dry, use a 1” curling iron to enhance your bends.

- Gather your hair at the nape of your neck and secure in a low ponytail.
- Taking about ½ section of hair, wrap it around the elastic to cover and use a hairpin and Redken Forceful 23 Super-Strength Hairspray to secure it into place.
- Finish with a few spritzes of Redken Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Spray around your hairline for added hold and a glossy finish.
