The long crop or what some are dubbing “the lop” is a natural progression of the short styles we’ve seen on and off the runway the past few seasons. Perhaps the most famous version being worn by Kaia Gerber herself, the trend has transcended past models and celebrities and made its way into the mainstream.
The Long Crop:
We’re seeing a transition away from archetypal cuts and instead notice them following a freeform vibe, full of adventure. Unlike the bob, crop or pixie, this short style doesn’t necessarily follow an exacting length or shape. The result is a more fluid feel that can be tailored to an individual face shape or texture.
Is This Cut Right for You?
Just like any other trend, just because it looks great on someone on Instagram, it doesn’t mean that it is an ideal shape for your style. Luckily, you’re the only person who can determine that!
Whether you’ve been wearing your hair long for a while and want a change or are thinking of growing out a shorter cut, speaking with your stylist is the best way to determine a path forward. Any time you transition from one color, shape, length or style to another it can be a great idea to take things slow instead of rushing into it. If you have extra-long length and are considering a long crop, try out a mid-length or collarbone cut first. You can always go shorter, but growing hair back takes serious time and dedication.
Styling Tips:
Anytime you change length, you’ll most likely need to overhaul your hair products and tools. The size of brushes or curling wand once used on longer hair or specific products to achieve volume or curls could be rendered useless with a much shorter style. As an obvious investment, this is something that should be considered prior to cutting hair.
Generally, for shorter hairstyles, you’ll want to downsize the size of barrels for both brushes and wands. You might even want to invest in a mini hair straightener to make styling that much easier.

With a shorter crop, you could either find yourself blow-drying your hair more often or opting for a wash and wear look. If you’ve stepped up the heat styling, including products like Keune Lumi Coat Luminous Luminous Shine Spray or Wella Professionals EIMI Thermal Image are ideal to keep hair looking its healthiest and add a serious dose of shine.
