The allure of natural-looking highlights is endless. We all crave a “woke up like this” or “just got back from St. Barth’s” sun-kissed look and for good reason. Natural-looking highlights complement any color, cut or style. They are less upkeep than traditional highlights and can be created to enhance your already stunning natural hair color. Many of us can still remember squeezing lemon or “Sun-In” into our strands, hoping for lighter locks and while the desire hasn’t changed, one good thing is that the innovation has.
Coloring techniques and education have evolved over the years to give stylists the tools to create effortless natural-looking highlights and its called balayage.
Starting in France in the 70s, balayage made its debut on the scene and became a staple in many salons around the world in the 90s. In the late 90s education started expanding for this technique as Southern California became a hotspot for the quintessential beachy color. Fast forward to today and balayage has become something clients ask for by name. With a return to low-maintenance, natural-looking styles it is more important than ever to brush up on the latest balayage techniques.
As popularity continues to surmount, MATRIX is thrilled to announce the first-ever National Balayage Week taking place the week of August 17th.
