Semi permanent hair color is only designed to last about 6-8 shampoos, contains a much larger color molecule and therefor cannot permeate into the hair strand. In contrast, demi permanent hair color has a much smaller color molecule when comparing to a semi, often lasts much longer and needs to be mixed with an oxidant to develop the color. While these components make them much different, this process of oxidation is one of the main distinctions between the two.
