Víctor Alonso

ES · Stylist
This Valencian belongs to a third generation of hairdressers since his grandfather, Juan Andrés Hernández, began the path that the others would follow after. His mother, Emi Hernández, followed his steps too, and after many years of training, she established in Valencia, giving name to her first salon, Gemis Estilistas. In it, she started working with her sister, Gemma Alonso Hernández, and together gave birth to what would become a key for Víctor Alonso’s career, fashion hairdressing. Emi was known as a stubborn, innovative, creative, and avant-garde woman, and she always instilled in her three children her vision. In 1991, Gemma won the Spanish Championship that was celebrated in Valencia, and got four more trophies in the same edition. By then, Víctor was already an official hairdresser, and was forcefully unemployed for a year, as he had to do military service. When he came back, he started his career studying in the most important academies of the world, in cities like London, Paris, and Milan. He has been lucky to receive training from great professionals when they were accessible, like Anthony Mascolo (Toni & Guy). After six years of training, in 1997, his phase in Gemis Estilistas started, with the mission of leading the artistic team and creating the teams. Each year, he made collections that have been published in a wide range of professional and mass media outlets, like Vogue, Elle, and Cosmopolitan. Besides, he started giving workshops for other hairdressers, national and international, until today. He has worked for different brands of professional products, teaching hairdressers for L’Oréal Professionnel, Wella Professionals, Montibello, and Lisap Italia, among others. In 2000, he standardised his working method and started an expansion process opening new hairdressing centres. They followed three obsessions: training, image, and excellence, which, along with the values that Emi taught him, made the brand one of the best in the national hairdressing scene. Moreover, he collaborated with fashion magazines and the Valencia Fashion Week, hairstyling designers with his teams. From there, he has also been in charge of the image of public figures, singers, and actresses. Given that he felt his growing project required major demands, he extended his training and studied Business Administration and Coaching to take the next step: franchising. At the same time, he developed and created his own line of products, GMlab, a line that was developed technologically to differentiate from other existing lines, both in the technically and technologically. In 2009, he founded, along with other two partners, Club Fígaro, where he is now the director of the board. Finalist awards: - 2003, 2004 and 2005 finalist AIPP - 2011, prenominee for Spanish Hairdresser of the Year by Club Fígaro - 2011, finalist of the AIPP Grand Trophy VICTOR ALONSO Espacio Kibo Winner awards: - 2002, Trend Vision Wella Professionals. - 2010, Fígaro Awards for the Avant-garde category - 2010, AIPP for the Best Photo category After so much success, his life changed and he felt the need of making a U-turn. For Víctor, helping other people is essential, so he got involved, almost obsessively, in training other professionals. Since then, he travels to all around Spain every year, training other hairdressers with Coach Day: discovering life, teaching haircutting, colour, hairstyling, and coaching. And Reinvent yourself: the keys for change, a coaching course, and tutoring that has been useful for many during these times of crisis to change and get back to the front line. That is to say, an instruction manual for changing and reinventing.
