I first realized my passion for hair after a relocation when I was 7 years old. My parents, who had lived their whole lives just a short drive from The Windy City (Chicago, IL) took a leap of faith and moved to a small college town in the Midwest part of the state. They made the move so that they could become the new house parents at a foster home for teens. Two of my "foster sisters" went through beauty school while they lived with us. I loved playing with their kit, being their model. and seeing how happy the field made them. I was basically counting down the days to when I could enroll myself. That day came on August 25th 2008. (Yes, I have the date memorized because it was the most defining moment of my life! lol!) SO much has happened in the past 9 years, I could go on forever! I will simply share a few of my favorite moments. After beauty school I went back college (while working full time as a stylist and raising a 5 year old boy! holy cow!) to obtain a small science degree in the field of cosmetology. That college picked my TWICE to be featured in their alumni success stories, and then put me on a billboard! (For real! I'm on a billboard lol!) So that was fun. Another high point of my career was being accepted into the Redken Artist induction to become an educator for the brand. On top of that, American Salon Magazine wanted to feature my story in their December 2016 issue. I think the COOLEST thing about that, is that they didn't feature me because of the hair I did, they featured me because of my journey. A teen mom from a town of 2,000 who wasn't going to let her location or situation hinder her dreams! I love that I can set a good example for my son by showing him that work can be something you LOVE, not something you dread.
