Prada Is Taking Back The Night
The biggest movement seen at the Prada FW 2018 RTW show was diversity. It began with Anok Yai, a newly discovered Sudanese model, who began the show on a strong foot. Making her the first black model to lead the runway since Naomi Campbell. The fashion included many draped looks in juxtaposition with themselves. Mixing layers upon layers, puffers, tweeds and structured jackets with feminine feels of organza, sequins and bows. It was a social statement and the runway was one that evoked the feeling of night. Miuccia Prada said she wanted to showcase what it was like for women and how they navigate the night.
Welcome to Wakanda
If you’re not privy to the premise of Marvel’s Black Panther, Wakanda is a fictional place in East Africa that is home to the superhero Black Panther. Releasing today, the movie came to life this past week with a special presentation at NYFW named “Welcome to Wakanda.” It was a beautiful way to transport models and the audience alike into the heart of Wakanda.
Marc Jacobs Is 60s Inspired This Season
Inspired by 1980’s haute couture, Marc Jacobs created a line that couldn’t be ignored. With elements inspired by Mugler, Yves Saint Laurent, and Ungaro, he made statement-making designs that capitalized on this era and even outshined it. For his Marc Jacobs’ FW2018 Show, his bows were bigger, pants fluffier and shoulders were seriously wider. There was a drama in his collection with the deep hues and bold hats but his outward hourglass figures and oversized coats didn’t send us running. Embracing his flare, when models weren’t wearing hats, their hair color did the talking.
