Natural texture patterns are completely unique to each person. Everything from tight coils to loose curls, thick texture, or thin density all play a role when it comes to the individual. Because of these ever-changing factors, styling naturally curly hair comes down to strategy and making sure you have a game plan. While a lot of the time a great hairstyle comes down to the cut and color placement, product, sectioning, and drying play a large role in the outcome. Sharing his expertise, Sam Villa, Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Sam Villa and Global Artistic Ambassador for Redken, details how to enhance larger curl patterns.

The Top 7 Styling Tips To Enhance Large Curl Patterns

  1. Start with a good moisturizing line, such as Redken All Soft to shampoo and condition hair.
  2. After cleansing and conditioning, divide clean, wet hair into six sections. Three sections in the front (side, top, side) and three sections in the back (crown, center back, nape).
  3. Start product application at the nape. We suggest applying Redken Curvaceous Full Swirl Cream Serum to the first section and brush through with a Sam Villa Signature Series 9 Row Finishing Brush
  4. Then, gently squeeze/scrunch the section with your hands, hold for 5 -10 seconds and then release.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each section.
  6. Dry into place with a Sam Villa Artist Series Professional Blow Dryer and Diffuser. Make sure not to pull on the hair when drying.
  7. Dry completely and use your fingers to shake the hair to release defined polished curls.
